Building at the speed of light!

Day 1 was a grand success! We started off looking like drowned rats as the heavens opened up in somewhat of a deluge, leaving everything around us very, very muddy indeed. Thankfully, the clouds parted and we're all sporting incredibly fashionable sun burns.
Judy, Katie, Maja and Vivian headed up the painting crew and got everything exterior covered in a light blue/grey hue - this is no small feat, as it includes dozens of siding panels, beams, blocks, etc etc.
On the cutting team was Sam and Lee who spent the day measuring and trimming all the pieces that were needed to put the house together. A power team indeed!
Finally, the framers - Dylon, Brian, Robbie, Ben, Alex and I - just hammered away!
The best part of all of this is the emphasis the center puts on building connections with the family. The wife, Jaqueline, made us pouridge for lunch, which was AMAZING (except I turned around for a split second only to find a dog lapping mine up). We also got to spend time trying to communicate with them, which is always a lot of fun. It's been amazing seeing the team use their gifts in many different ways - whether it be the crew working non-stop (everyone powered through the rain without a single complaint!!!) to Vivian entertaining the children and doing her best to chat with them despite the language barriers.
In the end, we left the site with the whole frame up, the siding, as well as the rafters. At the end, we all got to write blessings on the inside of the walls for the family, which will be covered up tomorrow by drywall. We got back to the center in time for fresh churos!! Mmmm.

I thought I would capture this precious moment: Sam and Ben washing dishes!

The site when we first arrived.

Alex and Robbie, rain looming in the background.

Wall #1 goes up!

This is Juan, the kid that will be living in this new house,

Workin' hard!

Lunch time, featuring the lunch culprit.

Sam doing what he does best (in Mexico...so far).

Judy, looking rather "board". HA!

Katie and Maja hanging out with some of the local kids. Katie's name sounds humourously like "kitty", which prompted her own theme song.

Brian, the manliest person alive (mostly because the drill weighed about 400 tonnes).

Dylon in his element.

Dylon's brother, Lee, also very much in his element.

Yup. Im there too. ;)

The house at the end of day!
